Here We Go!

Saturday, July 4th

I really stink at packing light.

Oh well, that’s been true all my life. Why should I expect that to change now?

I’ve strapped on about all the motorcycle will take. Now it’s time to hit the road and ride west!

After our Five States Ride in April, Brian and worked out a plan to ride west to the Four Corners area. Parts of the family were gathering at my cousin John’s place for the July 4th weekend, so Brian and I decided to start our trip from there.

My ride to Smith Mountain Lake in Virginia was uneventful. Shortly after I arrived we changed Brian’s front tire. With fresh rubber on the front, his moto was now ready to roll.

But first, we needed to celebrate the 4th! Fire up the grill and open the cooler! We played in the lake with the kids, ate watermelon, cooked hotdogs and hamburgers, played horseshoes, and as it got dark, went out on the lake in John’s boat to watch the various fireworks displays around the lake.

My ride up from the Raleigh area was about 133 miles. Brian’s ride from Boone was a bit further.
