Across the Mississippi

Monday, July 6th

With limited time for our trip, our plan was to get to the Four Corners area quickly, then slow down and enjoy things. Interstates are not exciting to ride, but they are efficient for racking up miles.

We made it across the Mississippi River at about 1:30 pm.

The skies had been cloudy all morning, but by midafternoon some patches of blue sky started peeking through. Temperatures were in the upper 70s and rising.

We had been aiming for the Oklahoma state line today, but by late afternoon that was still another 107 miles away. There was a KOA campground beside the interstate in Morrilton, AR, so we decided to call it a day after 475 miles.

Not riding until dark would give us a chance to sort gear better, get some rest, and get an early start tomorrow. We were sure the sun would be shining across OK and TX, so riding before it got too hot would be smart.

So far, the weather had been much cooler and cloudier than we expected. I’m sure that will change soon enough.
